Curriculum Vitae – Julia Binek
The young German soprano Julia Binek gained her first experience in classical music at the Staatstheater Kassel in the children’s and extra chorus. There she soon took on solo roles in opera productions under renowned conductors such as Adam Fischer and Patrick Ringborg. At the age of 15, she performed her first staged role: the Queen of the Night from Mozart’s «die Zauberflöte», in a production for young voices in Kassel under the direction of soprano Traudel Schmaderer.
She studied voice (concert major) at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Michele Crider and continued her vocal training with John and Jacqueline Miura-Daszak in Stockholm and with Adina Nitescu in Berlin.
During her studies, she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2018 and 2019, performing the soprano solo role of the Table Society in Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s «Jedermann» on Domplatz, directed by Michael Sturminger and conducted by Wolfgang Mitterer. She also appeared at the Mozarteum Salzburg as one of the solo nuns in Francis Poulenc’s «Dialogues des Carmélites», directed by Karoline Gruber and conducted by Kai Röhring. Julia Binek gave her first major role debut as Pamina in Mozart’s «Die Zauberflöte» under the musical direction of Nir Kabaretti and directed by Constance Köhnemann at the Beer Sheva Theatre in Israel.
After completing her master’s degree, Julia Binek had further debuts at the Ashdod Theatre and the Jerusalem Theatre in Israel, performing under notable conductors such as Sebastien Rouland, Paulo Spadaro, Marc Niemann, and Svetoslav Borisov in roles including «Fiordilidgi – Cosi fan tutte», «Mercedes-Carmen», and «Lola -Cavalleria rusticana». She also stepped in as the cover for Pamina in Mozart’s «Die Zauberflöte» at the Landestheater Salzburg, conducted by Gabriel Venzago and directed by Christiane Lutz. In addition, she made her debut as Aninna in Johann Strauss’ operetta «Eine Nacht in Venedig».
Alongside her concert and stage appearances, the young soprano has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Rolando Villazón, Plácido Domingo, and Petra Lang. In 2024, she took part in the masterclass with Edda Moser at the International Richard Strauss Festival. Also in 2024, she transitioned into the youthfully dramatic soprano repertoire and studied entire roles, expanding her repertoire to include Elisabeth (Tannhäuser/Wagner), Agathe (Der Freischütz/Weber), Aida (Aida/Verdi), Leonore (Fidelio/Beethoven), and Elettra (Idomeneo/Mozart). In the same year, she was awarded the First Prize of the Richard Wagner Scholarship Bayreuth 2025.
